SSH credentials and amazon web services

I'm using a machine on Amazon Web Services EC2. I login using OpenSSH_5.1p1 as follows:

ssh -i c:/Projects/EFE/Perf/AWS/InstanceKeyPairs/awsperf-key.pem root@<ec2 instance>.compute-1.amazonaws.com

I can't figure-out how to login to this machine using SecureCRT Version 6.0.3. Anything I try has SecureCRT complaining that it can't open the "pem" file or a file that I create from it.

Can someone tell me how to do this? Is it a matter of turning a "pem" into a public and private key, or something?

Thanks.

SSH credentials and amazon web services: Answer

I found my answer here:
http://forums.vandyke.com/showthread...ghlight=amazon

Here's what I did:
cp awsperf-key.pem awsperf-key.copy.pem
ssh-keygen -p -f awsperf-key.copy.pem
ssh-keygen -e -f awsperf-key.copy.pem >> awsperf-key.copy.pem.pub
set SSH PublicKey Properties "Use identity" to the file awsperf-key.copy.pem

Hi lraab,

Thanks for posting your answer here. I am sure it will be helpful for anyone else needing to convert .pem keys to OpenSSH or VanDyke compatible keys.
