dynamic username

Dear experienced SecureCRT user and technical support staff,

I'm using SecureCRT for quite some time and now I'm facing the first issue where I can't find a solution.

My team is sharing sessions in a single sessions folder. This gives us the ability to keep track of the sessions via SVN. Normally the login user is the same for all team members. (There are other security measures in place to ensure no one is doing bad stuff and blaming another person for mistakes.)

Now we would like to move to different usernames for each person but still maintain a single SVN repository for the complete team.

Is there a possibility to let SecureCRT determine the username from windows logon / UPN or other variables ?

Best regards

Marcus

Hi Marcus,

What version of SecureCRT are you using?

What protocol do you use to connect?

If strictly local accounts are used, as of SecureCRT v7.3.x, you can use the variable %USERNAME% in the Connection / SSH2 (and SSH1) category in the Username field:

Changes in SecureCRT 7.3 (Beta 1) -- August 7, 2014
---------------------------------------------------

New features:

  • Added the ability to specify the substitution parameter %USERNAME% as a session username.

Red face Is it possble to add a domain?

I am using the variable %USERNAME% - it works just fine

I have a growing problem - we have started to implement LDAP on some of our systems.

So my %USERNAME% is dill - but my username on the systems I have to connect to are:

dill@mds.lan
and on others:
admdill@mds.lan (Because I am an ADMin)

Is there any way I can add text-strings to the %USERNAME% in my "Session Options" -> "Username:"

Hi nenifled,

Sorry, no, presently you cannot append (or prepend) additional characters in fields where substitution variables are used.

I have created a feature request on your behalf in our product enhancement database to add the ability to append/prepend/concatenate in fields where substitution variables are used. Should a future release of SecureCRT include this feature, notification will be posted here.

If you prefer direct email notification, send an email to support@vandyke.com and include "Feature Request - Forum Thread #12215" in the subject line or use this form from the support page of our website.
