securecrt zsh
For the life of me I cannot figure out the settings to use in SecureCRT to get the new look of the zsh shell in Kali 2020.4 that comes naturally to PuTTY. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
Hopefully the image link works. Last edited by cboyack; 02-03-2021 at 07:05 AM. Reason: Please see this how-to for embedding images: https://forums.vandyke.com/showthread.php?t=14212 |

Configure character encoding in SecureCRT to match the remote's encoding
Quote:
Most likely the remote system has a LANG environment variable that involves UTF-8, but your character encoding in SecureCRT is set to something other than UTF-8 (most likely "Default").
Does that help? How could this possibly happen? It would seem that either you are using an older version of SecureCRT, or you are using a newer version of SecureCRT with a saved session that was created with an older version of SecureCRT. In newer versions of SecureCRT that aren't held back by an older legacy configuration, the default Character encoding value is UTF-8 and the Use Unicode line drawing characters option is enabled by default. If your Default session is reflecting a value other than UTF-8, you can set it to UTF-8 and apply that change to all of your existing sessions, if desired. See the tip or the video for an example. Jake-
Thanks! The UTF-8 and line drawing options fixed my issue. I was beating my head against the wall thinking it was terminal emulation. I've just dealt with line issues in the past but decided it was time to ask the pros. And you are correct about the session settings. I've been using SecureCRT since 1999 or 2000 and literally every session is a copy of one previous so I can keep my Mapped Keys for screen. It is entirely possible this session is from v3. I'll create a new default session and copy settings I want to use from now on. Thanks again. |

Todd,
I'm glad to know that you have things working as desired now. Thanks for being a long-time SecureCRT fan! --Jake
