Keyword Files

When creating a keyword file to search for RegEx or literal searches, it appears that there is a limit to how many strings you can put in the file. Is there any way around this limit?

Hi Caoimhin,

What version of SecureCRT are you using?

On what platform/OS?

Are you referring to creating a keyword list via the Terminal / Appearance category of SecureCRT Session Options?

Hi Caoimhin,

To my knowledge, there is not a limitation to the entries you can add via this mechanism. If any limitation, it would be resources of the computer, but these entries result in a very small file in most cases.

How many entries do you estimate you have?

What error message did you get that makes you believe you reached a limit?

Well it varies. I'm using a source text file of IP addresses to grep a few config logs, and to populate the -File Name-.ini keyword file. My last test put about 15-20 addresses into the file. Now when looking directly into the ini file all of the addresses were there, but when I looked at the keyword list in SecureCRT it stopped at around 12. The field at the top of the list and the 'Add' button were greyed out.

So it appears that there is a limitation on the number of entries that can be made. Can this be changed?

Hi Caoimhin,

This is why I asked what mechanism you were referring to. I guess I should have phrased the question as How are you adding the entries?.

Care must be taken when editing the INI files directly.

Did you notice the line that keeps track of how many entries you have?

Z:"Keyword List V2"=00000001

Did you edit that line accordingly as you "grew" the file by manually adding entries?

Did you know that it is a hex value?

So when you had 12 keywords in the list, that line should read:

Z:"Keyword List V2"=0000000d

I successfully added 70-some entries and did not experience any limitations.

Ah OK. Yes I saw that first line but I did not know what it was referring to. At first glance I thought the 1 was a true/false entry turning the list on. Now that I know it is a hex value for the number of entries in the list I will edit accordingly. Thanks for the information.

Hi Caoimhin,

Thanks for the update. As a note, the format of these files cannot be guaranteed, that is why we advise caution when working with the INI files directly.
