Import PuTTY sessions

Good day.

I haven't been able to find any post where my question has previously been asked.

I was wondering if there's a way to import PuTTY sessions into SecureCRT v8.3.2? A saw a post pertaining to a import script, but it does not give any details or where to find it.

Any ideas?

Bjoern

Hi BjoernH,

Several example scripts can be found here.

The scripts specifically for importing from PuTTY and SuperPuTTY can be found at this link.

Using the scripts and information found at these links are you able to successfully import your session data?

Thank you Eric. The ImportPuttyDatabaseIntoSecureCRTSessions.vbs script worked like magic.

Hi BjoernH,

I'm glad to hear that the script worked well for you.

Have a great rest of the day.

Good day.

The above script works well to import the Putty configurations from the existing PC registry, however, how do I import the sessions from a putty.reg obtained from ANOTHER computer?

Hi BjoernH,

It sounds like you've created a .reg file on one machine, MachineA, and would like to import the information into SecureCRT on MachineB is that correct?

If so, does MachineB also have PuTTY installed?

If MachineB does not have PuTTY installed you should be able to simply save the .reg file created on MachineA somewhere on MachineB. Then run the script on MachineB and, when prompted, select the .reg file.

If MachineB also has PuTTY installed you may need to modify the script to avoid it automatically importing MachineB's PuTTY config.

Yes, I created the .reg file on MachineA, transferred it to MachineB. MachineB does have Putty intalled, albeit only an few session entries.

Now here's the problem, the ImportPuttyDatabaseIntoSecureCRTSessions.vbs script does not give you a choice to choose a .reg file, it creates a new .reg file from the registry.

Hi Bjoern,

I believe you overlooked the last statement Eric included in his post:
Quote:
If MachineB also has PuTTY installed you may need to modify the script to avoid it automatically importing MachineB's PuTTY config.
If you comment out lines 127-136, you should be prompted to point to the reg file you brought over from MachineA:
Code:
    strExportedRegFile = g_fso.GetSpecialFolder(2) & "\scrt_import_ptty.reg"
    If g_fso.FileExists(strExportedRegFile) Then
        LogLine "Removing existing exported putty .reg file: " & strExportedRegFile
        g_fso.DeleteFile(strExportedRegFile)
    End If

    strCmd = "reg export hkcu\Software\simonTatham\PuTTY\sessions """ & strExportedRegFile & """"
    LogLine "Attempting to export putty config to a .reg file we can read in, using command: " & strCmd
    nResult = g_shell.Run(strCmd, 0, True)
    LogLine " --> Results of 'reg export' command: " & nResult

Thanks Brenda, yes, I did overlook the last part. I commented out lines 127 to 136, it worked.

Thanks,
