add multiple keys at startup time

Hi all,

I was used in putty agent to add multiple keys at startup time by using putty agent with the full path to the keys as arguments.

The password for the first key was cached , and the other keys were automatically inserted if having the same password.

How can be this achieved within activator ?

Many thanks

Hi geen.

I'd like to get some clarification.

Are you saying that you have multiple keys that all use the
same passphrase and you want to provide the passphrase once
to make all of the keys available?

If so, that is currently not possible with the Activator.
The Activator currently treats each key as a separate
entity. Even if each of your keys use the same passphrase,
you need to provide the passphrase once for each key in
order to load them into the Activator for use.

If you would like me to create an entry for this in our
feature request database, please send e-mail to
support@vandyke.com and reference this forum thread.

Thank you
JJH

Thank you for your quick reply. You've understood me correctly.

Ok, what about automate things? Would it be possible to provide activator with arguments to automatically load the keys at start up , and eventually prompt me for password?

Many thanks

Hi geen.

What you are asking for is not currently possible, so I have
created some entries for you in our feature request
database. We will post something here should a version of
SecureCRT become available with the ability to add multiple
keys to the agent via the command line or with the ability
to load a set of pre-defined private keys to the agent when
SecureCRT is launched or with the ability to try any
passphrase that has already been provided when new keys are
specified.

If you want to be notified via e-mail, please send a message
to support@vandyke.com referencing this forum thread.

Thank you.

JJH

Some years has passed since this question was last discussed. Have there been changes to SecureCRT in this regard since then? Like the OP, I'd also be interested in automating adding more keys to the agent when I start up SecureCRT.

Thanks!

Hi vwal,

It is a feature request.

I have added this thread to a feature request in our product enhancement database to add the ability to load multiple pre-defined private keys to agent when SecureCRT is launched (activator, preload). Should a future release of SecureCRT include this feature, notification will be posted here.

If you prefer direct email notification, send an email to support@vandyke.com and include "Feature Request - Forum Thread #11085" in the subject line or use this form from the support page of our website.

Hi all,

I'm happy to report that our developers have now implemented support for this feature in v9.0 beta 1:

Changes in SecureCRT 9.0 (Beta 1) -- September 24, 2020
-------------------------------------------------------
New Features:
  • Added the ability to specify public/private keys to load into SSH2 agent when SecureCRT starts.

It is available for both SecureCRT and SecureFX on all supported platforms. The beta 1 installers for Windows only are available on our website.

If you are a macOS or Linux user of SecureCRT, don't feel left out.

We can still give you a pre-release build of v9.0 with this functionality. Just email support@vandyke.com and request a build with Pre-loading agent keys support. (If not writing us from the email address associated with your download account, please include that email address in the body of the email.)

Or keep your eyes peeled for the beta 2 release which we expect to be for all supported platforms. (The best way to stay informed as to release dates is to subscribe to the product announcements.)

Thumbs up

The feature has been long time coming, but I'm excited to hear it has now been implemented! I'll be sure to give the latest beta a try! Many thanks!
