Unable to forward X11

I'm running OS X 10.10 and using SecureCRT 7.3.0 build 657. Whenever I try to to X11 forwarding I get a popup with the following:

Rejecting X11 forwarding requests from
127.0.0.1:51362 because
connection to the X11 server failed.
Hostname lookup failed: host not found

I'm able to do X11 forwarding from this linux server via command line ssh from my mac. Prior to upgrading to OS X 10.10 I was able to use SecureCRT for X11 forwarding without issues. I've tried disabling Little Snitch, which didn't help. I also tried an earlier version of SecureCRT with the same result.

Hello all,

We now have a build available that customers have reported resolves the issue. (This is a v7.3 build *after* the official v7.3 release. The fix will be included in v7.3.1 which will be out within a month or so.)

If you need the new build:

If your email does not originate from an email address associated with your download account:
Provide the email address associated with your download account (if you have one)
OR
Create a download account using the registration form.

The registration form helps ensure that we are compliant with U.S. Homeland Security export restrictions for strong encryption software. This is a one-time only requirement.
In the above scenario, since we won't have download account history to pattern-match against, please specify the type of installer you need:
  • A .dmg or .tar.gz file

  • Integrated or non-integrated installer

This is the second time this (seemingly) identical bug has popped up on a new OS release (I reported the previous one). This worries me :-(

Hi cgaspar,

That would be disconcerting. In this particular case, I don't recall any identical X11 issues on Mac that surfaced when a new OS X version was released.

Can you provide details as to the specific X11 problem you recall seeing when a new Mac OS X version was released?

We are making a change to our release testing process that we believe will minimize the possibility of this occurring in a future release.

Thanks,
Maureen

I had to reinstall OSX. Prior to the the internal release version had fixed the issue. Now both that version and the current public version are giving me the same X forwarding error. Please advise. Thanks.

Hello mjodka,

What version of SecureCRT did you reinstall?

The x11 forwarding fix for Yosemite is in the current, official release of SecureCRT (version 7.3.1).

Changes in SecureCRT 7.3.1 (Official) -- December 4, 2014
---------------------------------------------------------

Bug fixes:

  • Mac: X11 forwarding did not work with XQuartz on Mac OS 10.10 (Yosemite).

See this URL for upgrade eligibility (and access to current and older installers).

Hello mdojka,

Please send trace options output (instructions to follow) to support@vandyke.com when trying to use x11 forwarding in SecureCRT 7.3.1 on Yosemite.

It's often useful to see trace options output which provides debugging information that may help us better understand the problem that you're experiencing.

To enable trace options output:
  • First, open SecureCRT's main File pull-down menu and select Trace Options. If you open the File pull down menu again you should see a checkmark next to Trace Options, indicating that troubleshooting output is now enabled.
  • Next, connect to the remote machine. With trace options enabled, you will notice debugging information displayed in the terminal window that isn't normally there by default when SecureCRT is attempting to establish a connection, and at certain times throughout the lifetime of the connection.
  • Once the problem occurs, please right-click inside the terminal window and choose Select All, then right-click again and choose Copy to transfer the information to the clipboard.
  • Finally, open a text editor, paste the information from the clipboard into the editor program, and save it as a text file.
Since trace options can contain sensitive information, please send it as an attachment via email to support@vandyke.com. Please reference "Attn Brenda - Forum Thread #11748" in the subject line.
