Hi pavel.skovajsa,

Thanks for posting your list as well. Credit for the original list should to go Casey. He is a very helpful community member.

You should be able to attach files after a few posts.

The forum doesn't allow INI files to be attached. That's why I had to .zip my INI file. I bet things will work for you if you just .zip your attachment first.

Cisco Words for BlackBckgrd.ini

My colleague noticed the .ini file syntax uses 00+blue+green+red format, so he created a very nice Excel Spreadsheet with a small macro if you want to play with colors some more.

Enjoy!

Hi all,

Just to update the thread with the latest, with respect to Todd's post here, SecureCRT's product director has provided this additional information about why only "keyword" highlighting is supported at this time, not "phrases or substrings" (words with spaces).

Quote:
A while back, we investigated adding support for highlighting phrases and the performance hit was significant. We don't have a timeline for implementing this feature because we will need to do some more investigation to determine if this can be implemented in a way that is practical.
Posted February 17, 2016.

SecureCRT v7.3.6 is the official release.

SecureCRT v8.0 is in beta release.

This URL allows users to check their SecureCRT upgrade eligibility.

This seems very useful.
But I don't get it to work.

The word-list is empty when I click edit, and everything is the same color.

I might have missed this under step 2: "(Make sure you check the 'Color' checkbox)."
I don't know where I should check 'Color', I don't find any box named that.

Hi sosoupup,

What version of SecureCRT are you using?

Regular expression support and the ability to color keywords was added in v7.3.x:

Changes in SecureCRT 7.3 (Beta 1) -- August 7, 2014
---------------------------------------------------
New features:

  • Windows: Added support for regular expressions in keyword highlighting.
  • Added the ability to specify colors for keyword highlighting.

Steps are not clear

hello everyone,

I think steps are not clear coloring the words. becasuse word font coloring is different, referring it to highlighting is different I suppose?

can you explain it in easy way?

I couldn't get result.

Thanks.

Feature request.

I would just like to second the request for keywords that include spaces. We work with Extreme switches and it would be great if I could highlight
"Stack port"

Coloring each word independently would likely display port many times, which lessons the contrast.

Overall I love the product and was very pleased by the ability to move buttons around on my button bars.

Thanks,

Hi abdulkadirkilic

I can see why the procedure is not intuitive for you. You
have to create a keyword list before you get the chance to
specify that you want to use colors. Here are some steps
you can follow:
  • Open your Session Options to the Appearance category
  • In the Highlight keywords section, use the "Name"
dropdown list to choose "New..." to create a new keyword
    list
  • When the "Keyword List Properties" dialog appears,
provide a name for your new list
  • Type the word you want
to highlight in the "Word" entry box, then click the "Add"
    button
  • Click OK
  • Now you should see that the "Style" option are no longer
grayed out. Enable the "Color" option and click the "Edit"
    button.
  • Now you can select the word you added and click
the "Set Color" button to choose the color you want to use
  • When you are finished adding words and choosing colors,
    you can click OK
If you follow the steps in this order does it work for you?

I have created an entry for you in our feature request
database. We will post something here should a version of
SecureCRT become available with a more intuitive interface
for creating keyword lists and using colors. If you would
like to be informed via e-mail, please send a message to
support@vandyke.com and specify this forum thread.

Thanks
JJH

SecureCRT 8.1 on Linux Mint

Using SecureCRT on linux it seems like there are no regex support for coloring words. When I set Cisco words.ini my text appears monochrome, and only if I add a new word in keyword list this exact word becomes colored.
How can I fix this?

Hi MichaelSu,

Correct, regular expression support is not currently supported in SecureCRT/Linux.

I have added this thread to a feature request in our product enhancement database to add support for regular expressions in keyword highlighting in SecureCRT/Linux. Should a future release of SecureCRT include this feature, notification will be posted here.

If you prefer direct email notification, send an email to support@vandyke.com and include "Feature Request - Forum Thread #11631" in the subject line or use this form from the support page of our website.

Casey,

Thanks so much for this! I've been tweaking the .ini file for my liking, and am trying to get it to change the color of the font when I enter global config mode. I noticed that you have a string in the text that changes the font color when you move in and out of enable mode:

"[*]NOT_In_Enable_mode",00808000,00000001
"^\w[^#]*>",00808000,00000001

I tried tweaking this to work with global config like so:

"[*]In_Global_Config_mode",003577f3,00000001
"^\w[^#]*(config)#|hostname",003577f3,00000001

This isn't working for me though... Do you have any ideas how I might be able to accomplish what I'm looking to do? Thanks in advance!

The characters '(' and ')' have special meaning in a regular expression, so you'll need to escape them with a '\'. for example:

Code:
"^\w[^#]*\(config\)#|hostname",003577f3,00000001
Does that work for you?
