Cannot SFTP Files

Hi All,

We are having a problem doing an SFTP from a Unix machine to my Windows machine running VShell. We are able to perform a connect, and browse to the virtual root dir. However when we attempt to do a put, we get the following in the Windows event log "00002: Failed to open '/rdprojects.txt': Access is denied." (rdprojects.txt is the file we are attempting to transfer).

Are there any ideas? The account that we are using has full control to the drive that the virtual root dir lives on, and the account is a local admin on the Windows machine.

Thanks!

Dan

Hello dan12345,

It is likely the sftp client is attempting to place the file at a virtual '/' directory that does not actually exist on the file system. If you disable 'Use single virtual root' from the 'Common / Virtual Roots' category of Vshell, what is the result of the sftp upload attempt?

If this does not resolve the issue, could you please provide a VShell debug log?

To enable debug log messages in VShell:
Open the VShell control panel and select the Logging category.
Enable the Debug option in the Log file messages section, and press Apply.
Attempt the connection again.
Since this log can contain sensitive information, feel free to send it to support@vandyke.com and in the subject line reference "VShell log, forum thread 3354, attn Brenda".

It sounds like you may have SFTP disabled in Access Control for this particular user.

If you open the VShell Control Panel and then navigate to the "Access Control" category, is SFTP enabled for the user account in question?

The user will automatically be denied if you have denied SFTP access for a group in which the user belongs.
