Lightbulb New Feature Request

First off, I do have to say that this is by far my most favorite and most used piece of software.
And while that may have sounded like one heck of a suck-up line... it honestly wasn't.

Both my fiance and I constantly have SecureCRT open and connected to several servers. The problem we have both come across, on more than one occasion, is while editing.
Having several tabs open for each server at once makes it very easy to edit within the wrong window. We've both come very close, on more than one occasion, to doing so.

With Firefox I have many tabs open at once and it was a royal pain hunting down the tab you're looking for until I installed the "colored tabs". With the colored tabs I can have the same domain be all one color, another domain be another color, etc. Or I can have it randomly choose a color or I can set whatever color I want for whichever tab I want.
Either way, it's a lot more organized and easier to find things.

I think a colored tabs would be beneficial for those users that also normally have many tabs open for various domains.

I know that I and my fiance would greatly appreciate it and find it useful anyway.

Regardless, thank you for the great app and the time spent consistantly making it better. The work behind it really shows.

Amb.

Hello Amber.

I'm glad to hear how much you like SecureCRT. I have
created an entry for you in our feature request database for
the ability to color your tabs. We will post something here
should a version of SecureCRT become available with the
ability to change the colors of the tabs individually. If
you would like to be informed via e-mail, please send e-mail
to support@vandyke.com and reference this forum thread.

If you are connecting to server allows you to edit a file
like .bashrc, you could include a line like the following in
that file to change the color of your prompt, etc.:

export PS1="\n\e[4;31m\d, \A\n\r\e[0;32m\u@\h\n\r\e[0;37m\w
$\e[0;32m "

Would something like that help you?

Thank you

JJH

Hi jjh,

I'm amber's other half, and yes we do have colored prompts, in fact, they're somewhat advanced, as you can see:

if [ `whoami` = "root" ]; then
PS1='\[\033[1;31m\][\[\033[0;31m\]\t\[\033[1;31m\]] \[\033[0;31m\]\u\[\033[1;31m\]@\[\033[0;31m\]\h\[\033[1;31m\]:\[\033[0m\]\w\[\033[0;31m\]#\[\033[0m\] '
else
PS1='\[\033[1;36m\][\[\033[0;36m\]\t\[\033[1;36m\]] \[\033[0;36m\]\u\[\033[1;36m\]@\[\033[0;36m\]\h\[\033[1;36m\]:\[\033[0m\]\w\[\033[0;36m\]>\[\033[0m\] '
fi
PS2='> '
export PS1 PS2

The problem is often having multiple sessions open while using an editor or simply switching back and forth a lot. Having colored tabs, or the ability to make certain tabs colored depending on the connection, would give an easy visual way to identify which connection you are presenting viewing.

Thanks for your consideration and thanks for a great piece of software!

Best regards,

chasingsol
