File Transfer Types

I'm starting to use SecureFX for file transfers as needed, and I'm sure this has been asked before.

The annoying thing right now is getting a pop up for each file extension and having to choose ASCII or Binary transfer types. In SCP, I imagine this doesn't matter.

However, my question is - is there a way for Vandyke to provide a pre-populated list of extensions and file types so I don't have to do this for every one that comes up?

I also don't know what the end consequence will be if I get it wrong as most files I know what they are, but every know and then I come across something where I have to think whether its text or not.

Maybe the solution for me, which would probably work, is to just use SCP instead of SFTP for everything?

SecureFX on Linux/macOS platforms does not have any built in ASCII/Binary file type designations.

I've added a feature request on your behalf so that the SecureFX product director may be able to evaluate it for potential inclusion in some future release. I don't yet have any ETA for when or even if this might ever become available, but if it does we'll post here.

The SCP protocol does not offer a mechanism to choose between "ASCII or Binary" file types. All transfers performed with the SCP protocol are "Binary".

If you are transferring a file from a Linux machine to another Linux machine, then "Binary" would work perfect because no conversion is needed.

If you are transferring a file from a Linux machine to a Windows machine, then certain plain text files may require the "ASCII" file transfer type to handle the "Line End" character conversion.

The reason you are being prompted to choose between "ASCII or Binary" is that SecureFX's "Default transfer type" is set to "Prompt for type". This is located in the Options > Global Options > File Transfer category.

If you want to change the "Default file type" to "Binary", then follow the example below.
