If you select "Horizontal scrollbar" from the View menu, are you able to get to the right side of the session window?

How wide is your terminal? I dont think the scroll bar will extend beyond that. In other words, if your width is at 132 and the text in pico or some other editor stretches out to 200, there is no way for SCRT to scroll out there to see it. it only knows about 132 columns

Hi Srobinson,

There are also a couple of other settings which should allow you scroll to the right.

Besides increasing the column amount as MikeStammer mentioned to something higher then 132 in the 'Emulation' sub-category under 'Terminal' in the session options. Another option that needs to be enabled is 'Retain size and font' in that same category.

If the columns are not increase, the remote will not even send the information after 132 characters. In this case, setting it to 200 or 256 will ensure that no informaiton is left off from the editors.

The 'Retain size and font' option will have SecureCRT leave the font size alone so that any extra text will just appear off the screen allowing you to scroll to it. You will also be able to manually resize your window without affecting the font size.

I have had the terminal set to 132 which is the max that can be set.
I have set the 'Retain size and font'. I think that this has worked for me but I have tried a few times and have got 'line wrap' -which is what I dont want to happen. Do any of the line wrap settings affect what I am trying to do?

thanks everyone

Hi Srobinson,

I'm glad to hear that the 'Retain size and font' setting worked!

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

The horizontal scroll bar is only visible when it's enabled in SecureCRT's View menu.

The horizontal scroll bar is only useful when:
  1. Session Options' "Retain size and font" option is selected in the On resize group of the Terminal > Emulation category
  2. Session Options' "Logical columns" value is greater than what can visibly be seen within the SecureCRT window.
  3. It's enabled as per the View menu as mentioned above.

See the following graphic for clarification:
It bears noting that if the remote system's understanding of the number of COLUMNS is less than what SecureCRT says is available, then the remote system will only utilize a portion of the columns available in SecureCRT's window because the remote shell/app value for COLUMNS doesn't match SecureCRT's value for COLUMNS.
Such a mismatch usually comes about when either A) the COLUMNS environment/shell variable is manually/automatically manipulated (either by you manually trying to set the COLUMNS env var or a remote shell/startup/profile script setting COLUMNS to a value that is hard-coded) after SecureCRT has already negotiated the number of columns with the remote shell, or B) the remote shell ignores SecureCRT's column size negotiation or the remote device isn't capable of terminal size negotiation.
