each SecureCRT instance with different color scheme

Hi

I have an issue with session coloring after upgrading to 7.0.4 from 6.0.x.
Basically i'm launching multiple SecureCRT instances (Windows with multiple tabs) and i need to have each instance a different color for default session. For example if i have two instances/Windows opeed in 7.0.4 and when i change default session color for e.g. Window2 it is also going to change SecueCRT Window1 default session color. I need this because i'm used to working on separate issues with a specific colors. I open multiple quick session daily.
Is there any workaround?
Thanks in advance.

Hi sh00zkosmosu,

That's a very old version, even after upgrading.

There *is* only one Default Session by default. To maintain separate ones, you would need to start separate SecureCRT instances by pointing to an alternate config where Default Session is configured to use a different color scheme:

Code:
SecureCRT /F "Path_to_MyAlternateColorSchemeConfig"
I have added this thread to a feature request in our product enhancement database for the ability to use multiple default session templates instead of just one. Should a future release of SecureCRT include this feature, notification will be posted here.

If you prefer direct email notification, send an email to support@vandyke.com and include "Feature Request - Forum Thread #12942" in the subject line or use this form from the support page of our website.

Hi sh00zkosmosu,

I am glad to hear the solution helps.

I have attached a history document that details the new features in SecureCRT from version 7.1.x to the current release, v8.3.x. (I omitted changes and bug fixes, since you are not experiencing a problem with the software).

Here's an encapsulated version:
  • 7.1: Dependent session (easier way to perform port forwarding), support for Kermit file transfer protocol
  • 7.2: Session Manager in addition to Connect dialog, SHA-2 MAC algorithm, zoom, pre-connect functionality, support for Windows 8
  • 7.3: Session Manager added for Mac/Linux, color keyword highlighting (regular expression support), filtering search, support for diffie-hellman-group-exchange-sha256 key-exchange algorithm, XML import/export
  • 8.0: Support for tab groups (Windows), new themes and toolbars (Windows), X.509 enhancements, support for TN3270 emulation, drag and drop button on button bar, support for high-DPI monitors
  • 8.1: Tab groups and updated icons (Mac/Linux), hex viewer, new command window options
  • 8.3: New color schemes, support for ChaCha20/Poly1305 cipher, confirm paste dialog, multiple session copy/move
Red = key encryption improvements
Blue = *really* nice feature

Color keyword highlighting is really cool if you like color for aiding in your pattern-matching where you need to spot things that are "important".

For example:
Want the word Error to always appear on the screen in red? Or how about Failed or down, etc.?

This is where keyword highlighting can help... and with support for regular expression highlighting (Windows only for the time being), words can be highlighted by specifying a pattern (so you can color IP addresses for easy detection, etc.).

Here's a pretty good discussion on it, with some screenshots from forum community member, Casey.

Have a great weekend!
