Browser-like Tabs / User Experience

Just a suggestion / brainstorming. What about browser-like tabs?
In the browser, I do Ctrl-T, start typing and press Enter.
Or, I do Ctrl-T and click a bookmark.

In SCRT, I do Alt-C, start typing and Press Enter. Except when I want to connect to a new host, in which case I have to do Alt-Q.

The browser way provides a better experience.

Hello Olaf,

Have you tried the newest (beta) release, SecureCRT 6.7?

While the timing is the opposite of what you want (blank tab first, then supply ip/hostname), using the new Connect Bar might meet your needs.

In the Connect Bar, valid ad hoc sessions can be connected (similar to command-line) via syntax such as that listed below:
hostname
ssh2://username:P@ssw0rd@ip_address
telnet://ip_address
ssh2://ip_address:Port /FIREWALL "My Firewall"
/S "My Session"
A future release will likely allow just the session name to be typed and not require the preceding /S.

I have also added this thread to a feature request in our development database to make new tabs more browser-like. Should a future release of SecureCRT include this feature, notification will be posted here.

If you prefer direct e-mail notification, contact support@vandyke.com and include "Feature Request - Forum Thread #7270" in the subject line.

In the meantime, do you think the new Connect Bar might meet your needs?

SecureCRT 6.7 beta 2 can be downloaded here.

I have. but:
1. I've disabled the toolbar. Is Connect Bar available (via a shortcut) in that case?
2. The New Tab page would merge normal connect, quick connect and be non-modal.

Hi Olaf,

No, unfortunately, the toolbar is where the Connect Bar lives, so if you prefer running SecureCRT with the toolbar disabled, you would be unable to access the Connect Bar as well.

I have added this thread to a feature request in our development database to allow the Connect dialog to be modeless, dockable or displayed separately. Should a future release of SecureCRT include this feature, notification will be posted here.

If you prefer direct e-mail notification, contact support@vandyke.com and include "Feature Request - Forum Thread #7270" in the subject line.

Hello Olaf,

Yes this feature has been considered. This is a fairly major change and the Development group is currently working on some other large features.

A dockable session manager has been implemented in a pre-beta version of SecureCRT for Windows. The new session manager can be docked and always shown, docked and only shown when you hover over it, or undocked and positioned anywhere as a modeless window. If you would be interested in trying it, please email me at Maureen.Jett@vandyke.com.

I still think a browser-like UI for tabs would be even better.
