Hi slouw,

That usually means you are connecting to the session but have pointed to that same session as the firewall (ie: dependent session functionality).

Changes in SecureCRT 7.1 (Beta 1) -- February 26, 2013
------------------------------------------------------
New features:

  • Added support for dependent sessions so that a connection can be made to a jump host or SSH gateway before the session is connected.

Is that the case?

If so, if you set the firewall to none or choose what is the jump host session, is the issue resolved?

Global Options > Firewall is the category where firewall configuration are defined, but Session Options is where a session is configured to use firewall. The problem isn't with Global Options at all.

Did you recently watch, perhaps, the dependent sessions video? And did you, perhaps, apply a dependent session rule to all of your existing sessions by editing the Default session to use a jump-host session as its firewall? While it's a convenient time-saver to go this route, you have to remember to undo that change on your specific gateway/bastion/jump-host session (otherwise, it will be pointing to itself as its own firewall/dependent session).
  1. Locate the problematic session in SecureCRT's Session Manager.
  2. Right-click the session and choose Properties.
  3. Navigate to the SSH2 category.
  4. Set the Firewall field to None.
  5. Press OK.
  6. Connect to the session and verify that you no longer see the error telling you that the Session is configured to use itself as a firewall to itself.
