copying vshell server hostkey to other vshell servers

I have a question about VShell Server host keys.

Can we copy or export/import the host key of one server to other servers?

Is it just a matter of copying the "hostkey" and "hostkey.pub" files from the one server to the other servers?

Do those servers need to be rebooted or is restarting the VShell Server process sufficient?

We have VShell Server for Windows 2.3.5 installed on three Windows 2000 Server. We'd trying to implement DNS round robin for load distribution. The IP addresses of the three servers are associated with one host name so that DNS queries for that host name will return the different IP addresses on a round robin basis. In order to use that host name when making SSH connections, the VShell server host key needs to be the same on all three servers.

I've seen questions and answers on this forum about handling host keys for upgrades, but this situation is a little different.

Thanks for any help that you can provide.

Hi Lasalas,

The hostkey pair in VShell can be copied to the other servers.

You will not need to reboot the machines to have VShell use the new hostkeys.

Just stop the VShell service before copying the hostkey and hostkey.pub files over and then restart the service after the copy completes.

VShell should immediately start using the newly copied hostkey pair.

Does this help to answer your questions?
