Post Determining what security regime currently in use with 3rd parties?

Hello. We've using an older version of VShell as part of our SSH/SFTP solution and we have quite a number of external parties to/with which we exchange files securely.

We've decided we need to update our version of VShell to gain access to newer security settings. As part of the extensive testing and planning I will do before performing the upgrade, it would be very useful if I could determine, for each of the 3rd parties we're currently exchanging files with, what security regime we're using with each.

I know there are logs available, but if anyone knows of any quick way to determine "For this party, they always connect using diffie-hellman-group14-sha2-256" or something, using Cipher X, MAC Y, that'd really help me.

Hi dverbern,

Unfortunately, the functionality that you desire is not currently available in VShell. There is not a way to get at the "security regime" that you are looking at with each client without reviewing a VShell Debug log of your connections to said clients.

I have, however, submitted a feature request on your behalf to add a way to more easily determine/report cipher and MAC algorithms used by clients connecting to VShell.

Should a future release of VShell include this functionality, notification will be posted here.

If you prefer direct email notification, send an email to support@vandyke.com and include "Feature Request - Forum Thread #13434" in the subject line.
