Hi twty,

You can send Ctrl+C using the following command:
Code:

echo -e "\003"
Does this help to answer your question?

If not, what are you trying to accomplish?

Are you trying to send chat to all open tabs?

twty 03-07-2009 10:15 AM

example:
on linux, i use comand "tail -f logname", can see the output continuance.
when I want back to command line, I can "Ctrl+c" in a tab.

sometimes when I in chat window, what can I input in chat window? and send chat to all tabs.

Hi twty,

You can send any text using the Chat window.

It is not yet possible to send escape sequences using the Chat window in the manner you have described.

I have added this forum thread #3475 to a feature request in our development database with regards to being able to send escape sequences like Ctrl+C using the Chat window.

If a future release of SecureCRT has this feature incorporated, we will post to this forum thread.

If you would like to be notified directly, please send an email to support@vandyke.com with a subject line of "Forum thread #3475 feature request."

Hi IK,

Thanks for you interest in SecureCRT.

If a future release of SecureCRT offers the ability to send escape sequences in the chat window, we will post to this forum thread.

Sending "special" characters most importantly the <esc> character would be useful when gang editing in vi. You can insert using normal characters but you need to send the <esc> character to snap vi out of edit mode.

Thanks

Sending <ESC> in the chat window

Hi,

Found a "somewhat" awkward way to send <ESC> in the chat window:

1. Open a text editor - Notepad++ works for me
2. Press ALT and enter 027 it will give you an ESC symbol in the editor
3. Select it and <CTRL + C>
4. Paste it into the chat window, VI will accept it :)

I tried "ALT + 027" directly in the chat window, not worked.

CTRL-C, CTRL-D could be sent too

<CTRL-C> : ALT + 003
<CTRL-D> : ALT + 004

See the Ascii char table:

Dec Hex Unicode Char Name
...
3 03 U+0003 ETX End of Text
4 04 U+0004 EOT End of Transmission
...

Hi DcKMjG8pBaTAB2h,

Thanks for posting the idea. I have attached an example script that illustrates how this could be automated for all control characters. It is important to note that any character sent via the chat window will be terminated with a carriage return.

unable to understand Alt + 003

Hello

I am not as techie as u ppl. but i also have same requirement to send Ctrl + C in chat window.

I am unable to understand how to make this Alt + 003 work in Notepad ++

i tried typing 003 with Alt key pressed . nothing happening. (This may sound stupid :) )

please reply and pull me out of this trouble as i have to do Ctrl + C on 15 tabs in Secure CRT.

Hi abhi.abhi,

You can use the script I attached in post #11 to copy the character generated by pressing Ctrl+C (^C) to the clipboard which you could then paste into the Chat window. If you can't use the script, then you can map a button to send "\003" to the remote which will do the same thing. You can use the button to send the escape sequence to all tabs in SecureCRT 7.1.x by holding Shift when pressing the button.

Here are the steps to map a button to send a string:
  1. Right-click on a blank space on the Button Bar and select New Button... from the context menu
  2. Enter the string to send in the Send String input box
  3. Provide a label for the button if desired
Does this help to answer your question?

As a note, the Chat window doesn't currently support sending escape sequences. We will post to this forum thread if we add the ability in the future.

If you would like to be notified directly, please complete and submit the form at the following location:

Hello all,

See this post for additional information on a possible workaround to send control and escape sequences to all sessions.

The ability to send control characters and use vi from the Command (Chat) Window has been added to pre-beta version of SecureCRT. If you'd like to try it, please send email to me at Maureen.Jett@vandyke.com.
